The coastline is the playground
Middle Cove Beach
Middle Cove Beach is a very popular destination for residents and visitors. It contains ample parking and consists of a beautiful beach for children to play and for the annual capelin run. At night many a campfire burns as the waves roll in the background. Admission is free, but the Town asks that when using the beach you clean up all garbage — whether used at day or night — to keep it pristine for many years to come.
Outer Cove Beach
Outer Cove Beach is another beach located within the Town which residents and tourists use for fishing during the season and campfires at night. Admission is free, and the same ask: carry out what you carry in.
Look-outs
The Town has two look-outs — one just up from Outer Cove Beach overlooking Outer Cove, the other a minute’s drive down past the War Memorial overlooking Middle Cove.
Comprising 24 wilderness paths along 265 kilometers of breathtaking Newfoundland coastline, the East Coast Trail offers a second-to-none hiking experience — towering cliffs, lighthouses, seabird colonies and much more, easily accessed from Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove.

Kelly Park and the playgrounds
The Town’s major sports hub is Kelly Park, located at 108 Outer Cove Road. It contains a playground area, softball field, tennis courts, and soccer field. Two other playgrounds round out the map: one on Outer Cove Road near St. Francis of Assisi School, the other on Nageira Crescent near Middle Cove Beach.

Arena & centre
Ice time and hall rentals
The Jack Byrne Arena is owned and operated by the communities of Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove, Torbay, Flatrock and Pouch Cove, and opened in October 2008 thanks in part to the late Jack Byrne, for whom the Arena is named. It is home to the North East Minor Eagles, the North East Senior Eagles and the Junior Celtics, and hosts the Prince of Wales Skating Club — plus general skates, adult skates, parent and tot skates, and roller skating in the summer months. The arena is in Torbay, NL, just minutes away from Stavanger Drive in St. John’s.
The Justina Centre at 108 Outer Cove Road takes rental requests through the town office: bookings run a minimum of 2 weeks ahead for a non-bar function and 1 month for a bar function, weddings a minimum of 6 months ahead, and Lower Level bookings are for residents of the Town only. Rental requests go through the town office at 709-726-7930.
Museum, research & remembrance
Heritage on the shore
The Museum of Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove is located in the lower level of the Town Hall. The Heritage Committee, formed in October 1995, preserves and promotes the Town’s rich history through the museum. Its five themes: the Fishery — local photos, fishing net displays and sealing artifacts; Agriculture — tools and items from early farming; Sports — the strong rowing heritage from the famous Outer Cove crew that rowed the time of 9:13 in 1901 to today’s rowers; Lifestyles; and the community’s own story. The Town welcomes donations of artifacts and new members on the Heritage Committee.
Memorial University’s Ocean Sciences Centre on Marine Lab Road is a major facility for marine research on the Atlantic coast. It opens its doors each June to the public — the popular touch tank, the harp seals, and more. Call 709.864.2459 or visit mun.ca/osc.
The Veterans Memorial Monument opened on July 1, 2014 and stands on Marine Drive between Outer Cove Beach and Middle Cove Beach. Ceremonies are held every July 1 and November 11.
